eBay You are buying 25 Dunstan American Chestnut seeds collected in October of 2023. The seeds have been cleaned in 10% bleach/water, thoroughly rinsed, dried and refrigerated. The parent tree is very prolific and produces a large crop of nuts each year. You will also receive a small free trifoliate orange tree. Dunstan Chestnut trees are a cross between the American Chestnut and the Chinese Chestnut which are resistant to the Chestnut blight. The trees are deciduous trees and grow very fast and can reach a height of ~50 -75 feet tall with a rounded crown. Generally, these trees can grow fast once established. In good soil with adequate light and moisture, Chestnut trees can grow 3+ feet in one year. The parent tree has been grown naturally in the midwest. Did you know that a trees new growth happens primarily before the end of July? This year we have had a very wet spring followed dry conditions. These harsh conditions did not affect the good crop. Chestnuts trees are a native range is from New England states to Norther Texas to Florida. They appear in a variety of geographies from hills to low-lands. Planting two trees helps to ensure tree reproduction. In Fall the leaves turn yellow/orange. The nuts are edible and encased in a spiny husk which turn opens after the nut falls to the ground. The nuts are edible in many foods and for wildlife. Chestnut wood is highly valued for a lumber including cabinets, furniture, and fine veneers. It was once the wood to build everything from before the blight of early 1900s. The wood was called the cradle to the grave because it was used for baby cradles and colffins.
